Malala: A Young Activist

Think you have to be an adult to fight for issues you care about? Think again.

This is Malala Yousafzai. She is merely 16 years old and has been a political activist for years. She lives in Pakistan where girls are often oppressed and sometimes not even allowed to attend school. Even though school can be boring at times, it is something that we as Americans are lucky to always have a right to.

Malala had been promoting girls' education for years, when a member of the opposing rule attempted to assassinate her. They were thankfully unsuccessful, and Malala continues to be an international voice in promoting equal rights for girls everywhere! In 2013 she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and was the youngest person and first girl nominated for it.

Hearing about Malala's story makes me feel challenged to stand up for what I believe in and persevere in the face of adversity. Despite being a young girl, she is making a huge difference in the world.
