The World Cup and Dilma Rouseff

Happy Monday, everyone!

Did you all watch the Super Bowl last night?  How about that Bruno Mars halftime show?  “Just the Way you Are” has to be one of my all-time favorite songs :)

Anyway with the SuperBowl now over, my mind started wandering to another big sporting event this year: the World Cup.  You might have heard that Brazil is hosting the competition this summer and if you’re like me you’re wishing you had a ticket to watch!  What you might not have heard is how expensive it is to fund the games.

Brazil’s female president, Dilma Rouseff, is facing the dilemma of having a successful World Cup without hurting the economy.  Brazil is already facing slow economic growth and high deficits, so citizens are getting angry that the government is spending so much money on sports.

It certainly seems that Rouseff has a challenge on her hands, but I think she’s up for the job!  After all, she was captured and tortured as a teenager for being a socialist revolutionary, and from there rose to the top position in the country, so she’s one tough cookie!

Even though it looks like I’ll be watching the World Cup from my T.V. at home this summer, I definitely hope to travel to Brazil one day!  It's not only a beautiful country with talented soccer players, but also shows that women can lead major governments!

Talk to you soon!
