I'm going to stick with the Olympic theme that we have going this week and talk about something that really stuck out to me when watching the opening ceremonies this past Friday. Although over 88 countries will be represented at these games, not all of their leaders were in attendance. Many prominent western leaders, in particular US President Barack Obama, French President Francois Hollande, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel didn't appear at the opening ceremonies due to concerns about safety and disagreement with Russian politics. Whats more is that Erna Solberg, the Chancellor of Germany, was the only woman world leader to attend the ceremonies! I know that watching figure skating and downhill skiing is fun, but it's hard not to follow the Olympics as a political event too!
